Alyssa "Aly" Michelle Samnee (born March 12, 1992) is a Welsh singer, songwriter and musician, best known for being the lead vocalist of the Grammy nominated English rock band IDK YET OOPS.

Early Life

Alyssa Samnee was born and raised in Cardiff, Wales. She is the second of three children born to Megan and Ryan Samnee. Her parents divorced when she was eleven and soon after her mother moved to Dublin, leaving the children to be raised by their father. She began writing poetry as a teenager to deal with the loss of her mother's presence in her life. Her father gave her a guitar for her fourteenth birthday and she started to put her words to music. She attended all-ages concerts and festivals as a way to meet other teenagers with similar interests. At one of these shows, she met Oliver Carter, who would become her songwriting partner.

Career

Crepes of Wrath were formed in 2010 as an acoustic act with Samnee singing and Carter on guitar. The band name was taken from an episode of The Simpsons. The duo started played shows in London and surrounding areas but decided to recruit childhood friends, Marley Allen and Jesse Hannon, to play bass and drums respectively in 2012. They played shows in London and surrounding areas to grow the band’s fan base organically. They released a self-tilted EP that year via soundcloud, creating an even larger following by offering their music for free download.

The band continued to release music online and released their first physical single "Fluffy" in February 2013 on the Chess Club label. The second single "Bros" was released in May, also on Chess Club. In October, Crepes of Wrath released Blush, including a limited edition pressing on 10” vinyl. It was recorded during the summer of 2013. In December, they were recognized as the most blogged about artist in the UK by BBC Radio 6 Music.

In 2014, they signed to Dirty Hit Records and released their second EP, Creature Songs. It was available on 10" vinyl or digitally and later included as a HMV exclusive with their debut album, My Love is Cool. Creature Songs featured the single "Moaning Lisa Smile," inspired by the sixth episode of The Simpsons’ first season.

In early 2015, Crepes of Wrath recorded and then announced their debut album, My Love Is Cool. It was released on June 22, 2015 in the UK and June 23, 2015 in the US on Dirty Hit Records. The album included reworked versions of "Bros" and "Fluffy" along with new singles "Giant Peach" and "You’re a Germ." The US version included "Moaning Lisa Smile" as well, charting within the top 10 of the US Billbard Altnerative charts. It peaked at #9. The song was nominated for a Grammy.

My Love is Cool received Silver Certification in the UK as of January 2016, having sold more than 60,000 copies. The album peaked at #2 on the UK album charts, according to the OCC.

Personal Life

Samnee denies any rumors that she has been or ever was romantically linked to any of her bandmates. During the recording of My Love is Cool, she was rumored to be seeing Gus Lievsay, a connection that she insists was strictly friendly. There is constant speculation about who she is dating but she maintains that Crepes of Wrath is the only relationship she can handle while on the road.

extra info - considered herself straight edge as a teeanger but later decided her choice to stay away from partying is more about lack of interest than anything else.

- feels drawn to other female musicians as a way to balance out spending most of her time with her own bandmates.

- self-conscious about being pushed to be the front woman outside of the context of performing. interviews and photoshoots where she's expected to be presented a certain way because she's "the girl in the group" drive her crazy.

- not sure why so many people care what color her hair is, naturally or currently.

- shares songwriting duties with the band's other guitarist. describes her own lyrics as "personal but exaggerated."

- thinks questions about her orientation are a result of a heteronormative patriarchal society. believes sexuality is fluid so she's not interested in using a label to describe her preference.
